Bleedin’ female

I wasn’t bleeding then. My son was happily being gestated, in preparation for us meeting in the flesh. At least that’s what he remembers, or thinks, thankfully.

This is one of his early works of art and I love it. We’re so happy in it 🙂

When not pregnant, I bled every few weeks, as is normal for a female of child-bearing years. Thankfully, I was not banished or punished for this very natural phenomenon. Many of the 3.52 billion women the world over who experience periods are not so lucky. Today I’m sharing these photos that depict what the less fortunate ones go through. Horror.

It is a manufactured, social, unnecessary exile. One that The Guardian often draws our attention to.

Being female is not a sin. Nor are we second class in any way. Respect. Equality. Safety. These are my three words for today.
