Can you believe that this beauty was destined for the bin? A friend rescued her and she now has pride of place outside the front door, watching over us – our very own guardian angel.
She’s just one of the wonderful things that make my outside space outside so serene and special. It wasn’t always like this. When we moved to our current home, the outside area sucked the life out of me. It was so sterile. Barren. Uninviting. Something had to be done. Add to this the French door issue – whereby the outside was very much in. You couldn’t get away from it – the entire living area wall is glass, and my aversion to curtains compounded things.
The French doors were a major reason I chose this home over the newer, more energy efficient builds on the compound, and celebrated they would be. Given a choice I’ll always go for light, bringing the outdoors in and the indoors out – weather permitting.
And so, off to work I went – along with the help of wonderful friends.
The reactions I get from people are so telling. I find those who are more open to the universe embracing my painted garden walls – others shudder at the mishmash of colours that abound.
And it doesn’t stop at the front door… who says you can’t have a purple wall? Or a green room (ceiling included).
Don’t give me bland. Safe. Mediocre. Give me fun! Vibrant colour! Life!
Go on, experiment – at the very least you’ll have fun doing it and might release the inner artist. At worst you’ll re-do bits. So what. Get colouring.
I hope the photographs below put a smile on your lips, and give you some ideas to try out! Please share your great outside space 🙂
